After years of artistic experimentation, this Parisian outsider continues to create using the basics: painting and sculpture allow him to express a talent without artifice or affectation. They feature that iconoclastic approach for which he is known.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR PRACTICE AND HOW HAS IT EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS?

My practice is the result of my self-taught, « outsider » education, as well as people I meet who influence me. It is a harmonious mix of modern thought and techniques linked to a legacy of artisan conservatism, the rules of which I break. It has evolved across all mediums: performance, film, music… And today it focuses on sculpture and painting

MUSIC, FASHION, PERFORMING ARTS.. YOUR COLLABORATIONS REVEAL A MELTING POT OF CREATIVE FIELDS. IN YOUR OPINION, IS CONTEMPORARY ART INEVITABLY HYBRID?

Yes and no. I was lost for a time in the mix. That’s why I came back to painting and sculpture, but I don’t think there are any rules, really. That’s the strength of art. I believe in total art.

YOUR SERIES CHARGES MULTIPLIES SHAPES AND COLOURS AROUND A SHARED MATRIX. CAN YOU DESCRIBE THIS PROJECT’S LEITMOTIF ?

Charges multiplies series in itself, as I have no limits for shapes or colours. Every day, I open new doors that themselves lead to hundreds of others. My paintings are loaded with different components that make them structural and let me create these shapes, which, in my opinion, are the profound result of a modern search.

YOU HAVE ALWAYS LIVED AT THE HEART OF THE ALTERNATIVE PARIS ART SCENE. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CAPITAL TODAY?

I think much less of it now. It’s become comfortable and there’s a lack of new ideas. However, I can see a renaissance coming soon.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU YESTERDAY, INSPIRES YOU TODAY AND WILL INSPIRE YOU TOMORROW?

Every detail in this world and the worlds that don’t yet exist.
