ANDREAS KRONTHALER FOR VIVIENNE WESTWOOD18 décembre 2019
This season Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood has partnered with Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI of the International Trade Centre – a join body of the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) – to create an artisanal Fairtrade fabric handwoven in Mali, West Africa.
Meaning « made of land » in Malian, Bogolan fabric is a type of hand-painted « mud cloth » and is one of Africa’s most unusual and unique textiles, with each piece of fabric different to the next. The final product can be considered a form of « wearable art ».
Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood and the EFI are committed to developing Bogolan fabrics to help disadvantaged communities by promoting their artisanal skills and encouraging access to better employment opportunities.
